The EchoMRI-100™ is a QMR system that measure whole body fat mass, lean tissue mass, free water, and total body water in live animals up to 100g, without the need for anesthesia or sedation. Typically, a scanning can be preformed in less than 1 minute. Since animals can be scanned alive, awake, and unrestrained makes measurements more comfortable and less stressful for both the animals and their handlers. Animals can be scanned as frequently as needed without undue stress or other effects on their health and well-being.
Operation of the device is easy and does not require any background knowledge. Data analysis is automatic, with results stored in a database for future recall. Selections of stored results can be extracted either into Excel and ASCII files or into Access database.

The equipment is placed outside the animal facility at the Department of Biomedicine (West). it is therefore possible to scan animals from other research facilities without considerations for the health status at the facility.
