Ordering of animals

Ordering of animals:
All animals must be booked via the staff in Animal Facility and can only be ordered with the necessary permissions.

All animals must be ordered via mail: animalorders@biomed.au.dk using the ordering template.

When ordering from approved suppliers there is 1 week of delivery and one week of acclimatization.

Laboratory animals cannot be ordered without the necessary permissions.

Animals from non-approved suppliers usually requires more time before the experiments can begin. Import can only be permitted after the health status of the animals have been approved by the veterinarians. When ordering from other vendors or from other institutions at least 6 weeks for delivery, quarantine and acclimation must be expected before the study can begin.
Laboratory animals imported from non-approved supplier, will be placed in quarantine and will only be released after health checks for specific pathogens. Cost for this is re-invoiced to the researcher.

Housing of animals:
Laboratory animals may only be housed in classified areas in the animal facilities. Laboratory animals may not be moved outside the animal facilities. An exception is animals to be killed and for in vitro studies and animals moved to satellite facilities. All the movements of animals can only be done after agreement with the Animal Facility. Animals that have been moved from Animal Facility in Skou may not be re-introduced due to risk of infectious diseases. Laboratory animals may only be housed in classified areas in the animal facilities.

Health control of laboratory:
In the animal facilities a general health check of mice and rats at are made twice a year. This includes serological, bacteriological and parasitological examinations of test samples from animals and enviroment. A health status report can be prepared after each survey. Further investigation will be conducted following the discovery of dead animals and the occurrence of disease. Researchers will be informed about the occurrence of disease in their animals.

Transport of animals:
Shipment of laboratory animals to other institutions is possible only with the agreement of the veterinary management, which is responsible for completing the export certificates. Laboratory animals may only be transported in suitable crates. Animals for killing and for in-vitro experiments may only be transported in suitable and labelled crates.
